Broken Record

Broken, broken, broken record

Repeating loop of fear and unworthiness

The record is stuck, saying the same thing over and over

He won’t want you

The He

The one you admire and respect will choose another

There are plenty of fish swimming around you

But the one you are proud to be with will want another

One who is younger, prettier, more fit, better family

Just better

But the truth is

That the one you want is not really any more than you are

But the record is stuck

Remove it, but then there will be nothing

And this is the song I know

It is my companion

The sadness it creates is my old friend

Like worn out shoes, that I know already fit

New shoes hurt for a while and are stiff and uncomfortable

But after a while,

They are great

They can take me farther than old worn out shoes

They support me to get me where I want to go

Which is up, up, up out of this dark basement of a place with the broken record

Up to the light of day and a new song that sings

Yes, He, the one you respect and admire is yours

Waiting at the top where your new shoes have taken you
